Nutritional Medicine is a holistic approach to improving health and well being using food as medicine. This is achieved by assessing a patients individual needs whereby investigating if vital nutrients including vitamins and minerals are not being consumed with current diet or, not being available for the body to absorb if dietary intake is adequate. External factors may be looked at which may contribute to these deficiencies such as environmental toxins including mould, heavy metals, pharmacological and recreational drug use, artificial colourings, flavours and preservatives and everyday household products. These combined with the stress of everyday life may impact the absorption of certain nutrients which may contribute to the body not functioning as optimally as it could. The aim of nutritional medicine is to correct these deficiencies through a reduction and ideally elimination of the stressors. This combined with food and sometimes supplementation may improve vitality and well being.
